Fain.

Budapesta - troleibuze

Yutong and Ikarus close to delivering *160 trolleybuses to Budapest
The tender for the supply of up to *160 trolleybuses (of which 40 represent the first order) for Budapest has reached the final bid submission stage after more than a year since the announcement. Škoda Electric dropped out of the original four manufacturers that intended to participate in the competition, so that the negotiation phase with BKK was attended by three potential suppliers: Solaris Bus & Coach, Bozankaya and Yutong in a consortium with the domestic Ikarus.
After several rounds of negotiations, the final bids were submitted on 10 March 2025, with the best price submitted by Electrobus Europe Zrt., which is the distributor of Ikarus electric buses and which sponsored the cooperation between Yutong and Ikarus. The Chinese-Hungarian tandem offered €451,500 for one solo vehicle and €649,500 for an articulated vehicle. According to reports in the Hungarian media, Yutong/Ikarus should offer trolleybuses on the new platform of the U12 and U18 electric buses, which are considered by road vehicle design experts to be technologically very successful products. Bozankaya, which recently succeeded in the tender for the supply of trolleybuses for Prague after a two-year struggle, offered a lower price in the area of spare parts and training costs compared to the Chinese-Hungarian allies, but due to the low weight of these criteria and the significantly higher bid price (€569,000 and €729,000), it could not threaten its rival's primacy in any way.
Solaris finished in third place by a large margin, and its offer, considering the parameters provided and the short warranty period offered, seems as if the manufacturer from the Spanish CAF family was guided by the motto that it is not necessary to win, but to participate. Solaris offered a price for a solo vehicle at the level of €799,000. The articulated vehicle was then even more expensive – €973,000.
